Update 17-Sep-2010: Igor reached hurricane status Sept 11-12, 2010. Hurricane Igor is the ninth tropical storm, fourth hurricane and third major hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. A Cape Verde-type storm, it is currently the strongest storm of the season. With an estimated intensity of 155 mph (250 km/h) and a pressure of 925 mbar, Igor is the strongest tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin since Hurricane Felix of the 2007 season in terms of wind speeds and the most intense since Hurricane Dean, also of the 2007 hurricane season, in terms of minimum central pressure. Bermuda's government closed government-run schools for the dates of September 20th & 21st, 2010 in anticipation of Igor. In addition to school closures, Bermuda International Airport (BDA) will be shutdown on the dates of September 19th & 20th, 2010. Late on September 16, Igor reached a diameter of 575 miles (925 kilometers), making it the third-largest Atlantic hurricane on record. It is possible that the hurricane could still grow as it treks near Bermuda. By the end of it's run, Hurricane Igor could become the largest hurricane ever in the Atlantic Basin; a feat previously set by Hurricane Faith in 1966. Wikipedia:Hurricane Igor (2010)
